For Pen & Ink with
Oil Rouging
I always suggest FREDRIX ,
MEDIUM GRADE, with a red label
canvas panels, shown below.
Authentic acid free acrylic
titanium primed artist canvas
mounted on heavy board.
Popular for student projects
because of moderate cost and
portability. Suitable for oil or
acrylic painting. All panels are
completely turned and glued to
prevent fraying and separation.
All you do is pop it into a frame...
that simple!!!
***Fredrix Canvas Panels as
shown above are my preference.
Basically, any Fredrix Medium
Grade panel, stretched canvas,
rolled canvas and even canvas
pads are reliable, easy to ink and
rouge on and are easy on your
brushes.
If you absolutely cannot find the
brand I suggest, I will offer them
in class for a small fee.
Normally I would never suggest
purchasing a portrait smooth
texture canvas, however, at
Hobby Lobby there is a stretched
canvas that is acceptable. The
name is Master’s Touch Gallery
Collection, Medium Texture
Cotton Duck, Extra Smooth
Texture (gold label).

It was a great start in 2010 with many new projects and a lot of new students both in "Pen & Ink with Oils"
and "Colored Pencils". Some of you have taken the technique to a new level and have created some of
your own artwork, some portraits of your grandchildren, house portraits and just developing a few
pieces on your own. I am proud of you!!!!
This summer my husband Don and I decided to spend a few additional months up north in Michigan so
we shall be leaving Florida in mid May and return around mid October (snowbirds?....well, not really, our
permanent residence is Florida so I don’t know what you would call us, if you can think of a term, I would
love to hear it).
My plan with all this time I will have is to create some new pattern packets in both techniques. Some of
you have shared some pictures of barns, covered bridges as well as other photo’s that I plan to use and
develop into pattern packets so that they may be shared with everyone. As you know, my first love is
“pen & ink with oils”, I just can’t thank Mary Owens enough for giving me the opportunity to learn this
technique and become a certified instructor so I can teach you. I do also like colored pencils, especially
on suede board, the pencils just glide so nicely onto the surface. So, I think I will be busy, but not busy
enough that I wouldn’t appreciate an email from you once in a while!!!!!
Keep returning to the Class Page because I will be updating it. I already have a few classes scheduled
for fall, see below for projects, dates, etc. Although it’s a little early to plan the dates, there are some
really neat designs coming in 2011.
